Façade engineers
Structural, fire, moisture and thermal engineering of façade and roof systems for clients, design teams and specialist envelope contractors across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
AOCA provides specialist building envelope engineering services for data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial and other mission-critical buildings. Our role is to ensure that roof and façade systems are structurally sound, fire safe, moisture robust, thermally efficient and compliant with the project specification. We support clients, design teams and specialist contractors through design, review and site inspection services.
The work ranges from the structural design of a façade's fixing system, as on the architectural fin louvres of the award-winning Arklow Wastewater Treatment Plant, to independent third-party quality assurance of the waterproofing envelope on one of Dublin's landmark regeneration sites, and the peer review and inspection of cladding and roofing on data centres in Dublin, Wales, Sweden and Finland.
Façade and roof structural design
Roof and façade structural design; wind load design to Eurocode and FM Global requirements across multiple European jurisdictions; and finite element analysis for bespoke details and complex geometry. On the Arklow louvre façade this meant designing a fixing system for an exposed coastal location that held the architectural intent while resisting the environmental loading.
Fire, moisture and thermal performance
Fire engineering review of façade, roof and cavity barrier systems; condensation risk analysis and hygrothermal modelling; U-value, thermal bridge and energy performance assessments; and architectural engineering specification advice. For data centres and pharmaceutical buildings the envelope is part of the facility's resilience, so these checks are done before the system is procured, not after it leaks.
Peer review, audit and inspection on site
Design audits, peer reviews and compliance checks; BIM coordination and technical detailing support; and third-party site inspections and envelope audits. On a 52 MW data centre campus in Dublin AOCA was appointed by the main contractor as quality auditor, on site every two weeks for the duration of the project to inspect the roofing and cladding against design and specification. On a 16 MW data centre in Wales we acted as third-party design auditor and construction inspector for the envelope contractor.
Who instructs us
Main contractors who need an independent auditor on the envelope package, specialist façade and roofing contractors who need design and certification support, design teams who need a peer review, and owners and developers who want assurance that what was specified is what was built.

Common questions
Do you work for the façade contractor or for the client?
Both, on different projects. For a contractor we provide design, analysis and technical documentation. For a client or main contractor we act as the independent auditor and inspector. We do not do both on the same project.
Can you design to FM Global requirements?
Yes. Wind load design to Eurocode and FM Global is routine on our data centre and industrial work across several European jurisdictions.
Do you inspect during construction?
Yes. Third-party site inspections and envelope audits at agreed stages, with records that go to the client and the design team.
Do you cover the UK and Europe?
Yes. The UK is served from the Manchester office, and the practice has worked on envelopes in Wales, Sweden and Finland as well as Ireland.
