Arklow Water Treatment Plant

Structural design of the fixing system for the architectural fin louvres on Arklow's award-winning wastewater treatment plant.

Project Overview

AOCA was appointed to provide the structural engineering calculations and design for the fixing system supporting the architectural fin louvres to the exterior of the award-winning Arklow Wastewater Treatment Plant. The striking louvre façade transforms the treatment facility into a landmark structure, combining architectural vision with robust engineering design.

The project presented several engineering challenges, including the complex geometry of the façade, the exposed coastal location and the height of the building. Careful consideration was given to the structural performance of the fixing system to ensure it could safely withstand environmental loading while maintaining the architectural intent. AOCA worked closely with the project team to develop a practical and reliable solution for installation.

AOCA is proud to have contributed to the successful delivery of this major infrastructure project, helping create a facility that not only serves an essential public function but also sets a new benchmark for the architectural design of utility buildings.
