Our history
Reeling in the years.
From a drawing board in Portlaoise in 1996 to 7,000 projects across Ireland, the UK and Europe — the milestones that made AOCA.

1996
The beginning
Aidan O'Connell & Associates is founded in Portlaoise — one engineer, a drawing board and a conviction that clients deserve consultants who take responsibility.

2006
A permanent home
The practice moves to its current head office at Lismard House on the Timahoe Road, Portlaoise.

2014
Dublin calling
A second office opens at Centrepoint Business Park, Clondalkin, to better serve the Eastern region — growing to offer the full range of engineering services along with pyrite investigation.

2017
Rebranded
AOCA rebranded to create a more inclusive identity that reflected the people and values behind the business. The new name represented the company's growth from a small regional consultancy into a national and international engineering practice.

2016–2023
The remediation years
AOCA helps develop two NSAI National Standards for pyrite remediation and goes on to manage some of the largest residential remediation programmes in Ireland — while the practice itself keeps building.

2024
Recognised as Best in Class
Shortlisted at the Irish Building & Design Awards, and appointed Design Lead and Project Manager on the restoration of the historic Old Bank of Ireland Building in Tuam — converting it into modern offices for the Department of Social Protection.

2025
Recognised with prestigious industry awards
The Arklow Wastewater Treatment Plant is recognised with prestigious industry awards.

2025
A new chapter
After nearly three decades, founder Aidan O'Connell hands the reins to a new generation of leadership as Philip O'Connell steps in as Managing Director.

Today
7,000 projects and counting
A multidisciplinary team across Portlaoise, Dublin and Manchester, delivering nine expertise areas to clients across Ireland, the UK and Europe — with the same uncompromising standard as 1996.
Be part of the next chapter.
Whether as a client or a colleague — the story is still being written.
