Two-storey ASD Unit extension — full civil and structural engineering from planning through construction certification.
Project Overview
As part of a wider Design Team, AOCA provided full Civil and Structural Engineering services throughout the Planning, Tender and Construction stages for the delivery of a new ASD Unit extension to this existing school. Designed by McLoughlin Architecture, the development provides modern specialist educational facilities, including classrooms, multi-sensory and safe spaces, a central activity hall and soft play area to support students with additional needs.
The approximately 359 m² extension was constructed utilising traditional concrete strip foundations and solid ground bearing floors. The superstructure comprised wind posts incorporated into traditional masonry construction with additional steel framed supports to a two-storey structure, precast suspended upper-level floors and a combination of prefabricated metal deck, timber truss and flat roofed structures, delivering a robust and efficient building solution.
The project also included significant civil engineering works, comprising a new wastewater treatment system, sustainable stormwater attenuation infrastructure and accessible car parking facilities, ensuring the development was fully serviced and integrated with the existing school campus.
Services Provided
